Do you have plans this weekend? We are busy with errands, but the fun kind of errands. While we are busy darting around town, here are some things I’ve been thinking about this week.
Art Supplies: For the last month or two I’ve been using soft pastels. They are somewhat tricky to use, but I love the texture and blending qualities. I have Rembrandt soft pastels, and they work well on smooth or textured paper. Since I have a small set, I’m looking to expand my collection. Do you use soft pastels? I haven’t ventured into oil pastels, however, the Caran d’Ache Neocolor II pastels are some of my favorite wax pastels.
Documentary Series: We are hunting for a new series to watch. We loved the Pirates: Behind the Legends. It was over too quickly, and I’m hoping Nat Geo will create a similar series soon. If you have suggestions, please let me know.
Florals: Lately, I have been gravitating to abstract floral paintings. It’s not a subject I usually paint, but I’m having fun with it. It’s freeing. My art style is changing and feels like a way to explore new territory without completely abandoning abstraction.
Books/Poetry: While doing a search for poetry books at the local library, I came across this book. 100 Essential Modern Poems. It was intriguing because the chapter offers a glimpse into each of the poet’s lives along with a selection of poems. So far, it’s been a bit depressing. The few poets I’ve read about had horrendous lives. The search for poets continues, but I can only take one tragic story at a time. Reader be warned.
May this weekend bring you rest and creativity. Have a blessed week!
